FAQs

  • We are a family friendly swim and social club located in Houston’s Afton Village neighborhood of Spring Branch. Opened in 1964, AVSC is a non-profit, run by volunteers who are committed to continuing to provide a comfortable, clean and beautiful environment for our members to swim, play and socialize.

  • Membership open to all Houstonians, regardless of where they live in the city. Most of our members live in Spring Branch or the Heights, but we welcome anyone who is interested in joining.

  • While membership is open to everyone, regardless of zip code, we are a private club. Benefits include include:

Full season access to pool and club property

Pavilion rental access for hosting parties and outdoor, poolside gatherings

    Access to member events

Note: During the 2022 season, we will allow non-members to participate in the swim team for a partial membership fee, but full membership may be required to participate in all swim programs effective summer 2023.

  • For prospective members who would like to come out and see the pool before joining, we do allow visitors. Please use the Contact Us form to let us know when you would like to visit. At least one week of notice is appreciated.

  • Our hours vary throughout the summer. In May and August we are usually open Friday thru Sunday only, and in June through mid-August we are open every day. To see the latest information on our hours, see our Hours & Location page.

Note: During the last 10 minutes of each hour of operation, the pool observes an “adult swim” period. Lifeguards are not on duty during this time and all children must exit the main pool.

  • There is ample street parking available outside the club property along Afton and Tickner streets.

We have two single-stall restrooms for men and women. The property itself is surrounded by mature trees, which provide shade throughout the day.

We DO NOT ALLOW GLASS of any kind on the property, and expected members to strictly adhere to this rule in order to ensure everyone’s safety.

We are working on a system to accept credit card payments for the 2022 season.

Anyone who refuses to abide by this rule will be asked to leave for the remainder of the day and may have their membership revoked for repeated violations.
